Spring Cleaning: Makeup

As part of my spring cleaning this year, I desperately needed to organize my make up. When we moved into our house last year, I organized all of my makeup in a shallow drawer between our two sinks. Well, a year later it ended up looking like this...

It was a pretty tight fit before, and with my love of makeup, it was just getting worse. The final straw was when I couldn't fit my Naked2 pallet in that I purchased a few weeks ago. It's been sitting on the counter and driving me nuts!

So, I picked up wonderful lucite organizers from Target. I got one of these and two of these. They work perfectly! If you have a shallow drawer like me, I highly recommend them.

Here is my wonderfully organized makeup drawer! Unfortunately, it won't hold much more, but I got everything in! (minus a few things that I needed to throw away - another good spring cleaning step)

Summer Staples

Start Stocking up on Summer Staples!

Some things I am loving for Summer are Nautical Inspired pieces in different colors than your traditional navy, like the lime and coral above.

Lace accents are popping up everywhere. I am not typically a lace kind of girl, but the larger woven lace applique on the distressed shorts above, are the perfect girly-meet-beachy feel. Today, I actually paired them with the coral stripped tank directly above them.

Linen is always a summer staple and I am loving all the different colors these come in, especially the coral.

Coral will forever and ever be in for summer in my heart, but it's still as big for this summer as it was the last. Hip Hip Hooray!

You can find all of these adorable items at Target for $8 - $18!

Little Pink Lips

Lucky for me, Pink, in lots of different hues and textures, is in for Spring & Summer! I like to think it's in all the time, but right now it's everywhere and I am absolutely loving it!

The newest pink trend I've been noticing is lips, like Blake's above, that pop. I am not one to shy away from a bold lip, or anything bold for that matter, but I think to get this look right, you have to find the perfect color for your skin tone. As is true in lots of cases, but more so when choosing a bold color. You don't want to end up looking like... a hot mess.

Here are some colors I've scooped up, and a couple that are on my "wish list".

Swatches of colors 1 - 6 above

  1. CoverGirl Lip Perfection in Fairytale - bright bold reddish pink
  2. Revlon Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake - light lavender pink, better for fair skin tones
  3. Victoria's Secret Lip Gloss in Tiny Bubbles - pinkish purple sparkle with bubble gum scent
  4. Clinique Glossware in Kissy Fit - bright punchy pink
  5. Revlon Lip Butter in  Sweet Tart - sheer punchy pink
  6. Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Hibiscus - very sheer reddish pink
The two colors I want to try are:

     7.  CoverGirl Lip Perfection in Enchantress - bright barbie pink
     8.  Maybelliene Color Sensational in Fuschia Fever - bold lavendar pink

I will swatch these for you if I end up getting them. Which, knowing me, is pretty likely :)

I hope this helps you choose your perfect pink shade for spring!

Spring Color Blocked Nails

I loved my bright color blocked nails so much that I decided to rock color blocked again... with a sherbet spin. The colors are showing up a little brighter than they are in person. I stuck with pink & orange shades since they are my favorite colors. The pink shade is Essie's "Cute as a Button" and the orange shade is Ulta's "Peach Parfait". This is my first Ulta color. It went on sheerer than I expected, but after 3 coats it showed up the same color as the bottle. It was free, in Ulta's gift give away when you spend $17.50 in Ulta brand product, so I can't complain. I've liked all of the items in the gift so far, maybe I'll review them for you guys!

Valentine's Oreo Pops

My husband's favorite treat is Double Stuf Oreos, so yesterday, I decided to make him Double Stuf Oreo Pops for Valentine's Day. While they proved to be a little harder to manage than cake pops, I was able to get 12 looking worthy of a heart shaped pop display.

What you will need
All items, except Oreos, from Joannes

Gently place stick into Oreo cream & press cookie together

Dip into melted candy, lay on wax paper & decorate!

Let dry for about 1 hour

Remove from wax paper and place in styrafoam

Enjoy!

Spring into Action

Bikini Season is just around the corner, and some of us have a few, less than desirable, lb's we'd like to lose. This year, I've decided to motivate myself in a few different ways.

The first way is by these adorable little vases that took me about 5 minutes and $7 to make. Below is a list of everything you will need, approximate cost and where to get each item. As you can see, on the left, I have a diamond for every pound I would like to lose and on the right, an empty mini vase where my lost lb's will (WILL!) go :)

I am a very visual person, and like everyone else, I like to see results right away. Although we know it doesn't always go that way, it makes it harder to stick with the plan when you aren't feeling it. I am hoping this is the solution to that pesky little problem. I will update you guys on my successes (and failures) along the way!

What you need:

*2 Mini Vases - Old Time Pottery - $1/ea
*1 Bag of Diamonds - Joannes - $2.5 (with coupon from Sunday paper)
*1 Sheet of Cute Letters - Joannes - $3

See you at the beach!

Little Pink Peep toes

Last week I bought this fabulous pair of little pink peep toes made by Guess. Can you believe this is my very first pair of pink heels? I certainly can't! I don't what I've been doing this whole time without them! haha. I am loving them. They are pretty comfy for being about 4" high (I am short, I need all the help I can get!). I've worn them out to dinner twice so far.

I originally went in for the pair I mentioned here, but the pink ended up being more of a purpley color (kind of like the heels of these). I really had my heart set on pink, of course, so I was ecstatic when I saw these beauties. I love the gold detail in the front as well. I think it dresses them up a little.

As you probably can tell, I have them displayed in my little pink office, which I am hoping to finish soon and share more pictures of.

Beauty Review

I love to try different beauty products, so I thought it would be kind of neat to review them for you guys and give you my thoughts and recommendations. I'll do reviews on all types of beauty products coming from drugstores, department stores and beauty shops. So, let's kick it off!

First up, Yes To... Cucumbers Cleansing Face Wipes. I just started using these last week, but I absolutely love them. I'm terrible at taking off my makeup, but since getting these I've been taking it off every day. I highly recommend these. The "Yes To" line is cool because everything is almost completely organic. They also have Yes To Carrots, Blueberries and Tomatoes as well. You can find the line at most drugstores, Target and Ulta.

Next, Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Roller. I've been using this for quite awhile as my under eye concealer. I like it because it gives just enough coverage and rolls on with a cooling sensation. It would definitely recommend it. You can find this concealer at almost any drugstore.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad To The Bronze. This is a new product I got last week. I'm loving it because it's a great bronzy brown that is pretty by itself or with other browns and blacks for a smokey eye. It doesn't crease and lasts all day. They also offer have about 5 other colors. You can get these at most drugstores.

L'Oreal Voluminous False Lashes Mascara. I also picked this up last week. Usually I use the Maybelline Falsies mascara, which I still love, but this L'Oreal mascara seems to give me a little extra oomph. I would definitely recommend trying it out. I think every mascara works differently for everyone. You can find it at any drugstore.

I hope you guys find these reviews helpful! They'll be more to come (maybe not so many at a time).

Gift of Giving

Words can't describe how much I love this picture. It evokes so many emotions; joy, sadness, gratitude. I pray that one day I find a way to be able to do just this, in person, as well. I have no doubt that it will change my life. Even this picture changes my life a little more every time I look at it.

I've been in search of my purpose and passion for quite a few years. I don't have it quite figured out yet, which is okay, but I do know that when I do, it will involve giving to those truly in need. I absolutely can't wait.

Until that day, I will continue to search for and contribute to charities that do just that. This week, TOMS launched their highly anticipated (for me, anyway) ballet flat line. I am super excited. Mainly for the reason that, since they are now more work appropriate, I can wear them much more often and spread the word of TOMS everywhere I go.

I hope you all have a safe & wonderful Superbowl Weekend!

Cake Batter Cookies

I think I have discovered the secret to the perfect cookie - cake batter!

I found a cake batter cookie recipe on Pinterest a few weeks ago and chose it for our weekly sister baking night. I am so glad I did! They are almost better cooled down than they are warm! It's amazing. They are pretty, fluffy and moist... the perfect cookie! You can find the link to the recipe off of my Pinterest here. They are also super simple and quick to make! (This recipe only makes about 25, so if you are baking for a party, you probably want to use two boxes)

I chose to make them with funfetti cake (because it's the best stuff ever) & semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Since I typically make cookies from scratch, I think my next challenge will be making cake batter cookies without the mix. We'll see how that goes! :)

Color Blocked Nails

Color blocking is as big for spring as it was for winter and I am finally easing into it some. First, I bought a bikini with a hot pink top & neon melon bottom which I'm loving. Now, I am branching out to my nails. Next, I think it will be the pumps that were part of my inspiration (below).

The other part of my inspiration was from one of my favorite blogs, Cupcakes & Cashmere. Emily did this look last week, and I loved the way it turned out, so I decided to recreate it.

Be a little daring & try some color blocking yourself! (You can always keep that nail polish remover handy!)
